Abstract

Ibn-e-Safi presented humour in Urdu detective fiction in a unique style, particularly through the character of Ali Imran. The conversational humour of Ibn-e-Safi’s central character, Ali Imran, is not merely for entertainment; it incorporates literary comedic techniques such as unexpected responses, contradictions, innocent sarcasm, parody, and wordplay. These elements make even serious situations amusing for the reader. Ali Imran’s wit is crafted with elegance, intelligence, and composure, making the dialogues not only lively but also sustaining the story’s engagement. Ibn-e-Safi’s humour carries literary depth and reflects contemporary societal conditions. The humour of Ali Imran is not just a source of amusement but plays a significant role in the narrative structure.
