Abstract

The issue of Urdu spelling has been remained under discussion since ancient times; however, computer technology has given this issue a new dimension. Social media, online dictionaries and digital content publishing have simplified the traditional way of spelling but have also created incoherence. Under the influence of computer, new trends emerged in the spelling of some words and changes were seen in some traditional forms, while some new styles became popular.       The purpose of this study is to examine the changes in Urdu spelling that have occurred due to the impact of computer. The study also examines that what new forms have become common in computer-written Urdu, what principles have been affected and how these changes may affect the future of the Urdu language? Thus, this research illustrates the contemporary guide for current situation of the Urdu language and also provides a scholarly guide for the accuracy and standardization of spelling. In short, this research does not only highlight the current problems of Urdu spelling but also provides guidance regarding the formation of an authentic, clear and acceptable spelling in the computer age. Thus, this study can prove to be a milestone in harmonizing the Urdu language with technical and global requirements. Furthermore, this study will provide new research perspectives for students, researchers and scholars۔
